Besides being a violist, Steffen Drabek has chosen directing as the second main focus of his work.
As part of his studies, he found his way to Prof. Dominique Rouits at the International Bartok Seminar in Szombathely/Hunary and Prof. Julius Kalmar in Hamburg and Vienna. His participation at the International Competition for Direction in Brasov/Romania fetched him the offer of working as a guest director at the Philharmonic Orchestra of Brasov.
He has also directed the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bremen several times. He has directed a concert at the Rathaus ("Town Hall"), initiated and lead the much acclaimed film music concerts "Hollywood in Concert" and the crossover projects "Bremen Jazzharmonics" and "Philharmonic Jazz Night".
As a versatile musician, Steffen Drabek sees himself as someone who likes to straddle the distinctions between the most varied kinds of music. His musical versatility and his enthusiasm for the classical as well as for the contemporary repertoire contribute towards lifting the barriers between popular and classical music.
